Color of meshes VS Elements and voxels and other issues

Post by Jimmythumbtack » 15 Apr 2017, 15:09

I Finally bought Cubik and so far most things seem pretty intuitive and easy to work with.

Something is really puzzling me though. If I choose the same color for an element, voxel and mesh, the mesh will always have a different color to the other two, even on the same face.

Here's a picture to illustrate this:

Also, while it seems really simple to adjust the pixel size on an Element's texture, how does one would resize pixels size of a mesh's texture? Seems like the only option is tiny and there's no UV editor for meshes.

Since I won't be using this for Minecraft I would love to keep the Element and mesh interactions as seamless as possible

And finally is there a way to make the rotation more "snappy" as in adjusting the increments of the rotation to hit very key angles ( 45, 90, 180 etc ). The precise rotation is useful but for workflow, I would like it to be customizable.

Thank you!

That's true: the elements, voxels and meshes are using a different shaders for optimization purpose. The shaders are not rendering lights exactly the same way. While this might be fixed in future updates, this is just a difference in Cubik Studio preview, there are no difference after export.
If you are creating a mesh, instead of using elements, you should use cube primitive (it will have same shader and so same colors).

Currently, you can't modify easily the mesh texture. It has a fixed size and I've not found it useful for the moment to allow it to be more customizable. If you tell me what do you want to do exactly, I might find good new functions for future updates?

Mesh rotation is already snappy to 5°
It's not customizable for the moment

Thank you, that's good to know.

Well the reason I got Cubik was because It seemed like the most intuitive way to make low poly style models with pixel art textures. (think PS1, N64 and mobile games) It still works very well in that regard but I do think that if meshes behaved a bit more like elements it might make it even more interesting for artists not only interested in Minecraft modding ( I don't know to which extent this is possible ).
And while the slopes and corners may look Low poly, it would be interesting to see low poly versions of the other primitives like the sphere and such. I know you can easily bring in your own, but being able to choose the poly count of the meshes directly inside cubik would make things much quicker.
Dealing with other 3d programs to make such models can be a real pain with UV maps, especially when you want things to be pixel perfect, that's why Cubik is so interesting to me.

Still, I'm pretty sure I can get pretty close to the results I want rotating Elements around.

Just a thought but it would be great that if a button could be held while rotating so it snaps to let's say 30° increments, a bit like how photoshop and other 3d programs react. I'm sure it would make the workflow a bit quicker.
