Odd issue with transparent textures ingame.

Have this really weird issue going on with a model I made. I'm replacing jungle leaves, and for some reason when I place them down the transparent texture is just solid black, but when I place it on an armor stand head it renders just fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Leaves support transparent textures not translucent textures. The difference is leaves only render solid colour or no colour at all, they won't render partially transparent textures. It won't render the translucent texture so it's making it a solid colour.
All items in Minecraft will render translucent textures, this is why it works on the head of an armour stand as it renders it the same as an item.
You can use any stained glass block, not plain glass, instead of leaves to render the model correctly.

Makes sense. I tried it with stained glass but ended up with this nonsense. Sorry if this is a noob error, I'm fairly new to modeling for minecraft.
