Also tried the "sudo chmod -R 755" (found here on the forum) method, in two different ways. No luck.

If that doesn't work I can only really offer you a refund as it may just be that Mac OS has changed so much since the last update that it just won't run without being overhauled.

Unfortunately, those Terminal instructions did not work. I suppose a refund would be in order.
