Problems starting Cubik Studio on Ubuntu Linux [Solved]

We have problems starting cubik studio on ubuntu linux version:
4.4.0-72-generic #93-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 31 14:07:41 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

we get the following output when starting 'cubikupdater.x86_64':

The pasted output is standard.

The program is fully bundled (i.e. it doesn't rely on other libraries besides the ability to display graphics).

If you can run other Unity applications Cubik should work, too.

You may want to delete any unity3d/Cubik folders you can find within your home folder (.cache/.config/etc.).
